The Home Depot — Room Design
Client: The Home Depot · Agency: THE FOUNDRY
Overview
Home Depot was developing a new home furnishings line — furniture, lighting, and accessories — built for the online shopping experience. The Foundry, who came to Luminary through our Meredith and Better Homes & Gardens work, needed a way to show the full range in motion: a room going from blank canvas to fully designed space, fast, and proving it could all come from one place.
The Challenge
Show everything Home Depot could furnish a room with — and make it feel achievable, not like a catalog. The pieces had to populate a space quickly and engagingly across very different environments, from a living room to a bedroom to a college dorm, while keeping Home Depot's core DIY spirit front and center: you can do this yourself.
The Idea
We built the spots on match-cut frames with the camera in motion — jib, dolly, and motion-control systems — so each room visibly populates with furniture, lighting, and styling before your eyes. Then the key move: we added a human element, actors placing the real finishing touches inside the space. That turned a product showcase into something aspirational and attainable, tying straight back to Home Depot's do-it-yourself identity — all of it, all in one place.
The Craft
The transformation is the star, so it had to feel effortless and satisfying. Moving camera plus the human touch keeps it from ever reading as a static product grid. The look is crisp, clean, and bright — elevated but still approachable, matching the DIY promise. Jacob directed, DP'd, and edited, and created graphic VFX and animated callouts to surface the specific product features Home Depot wanted highlighted, woven into the motion rather than pasted on top.
Working with the team
The work came out of Luminary's relationship with Meredith and Better Homes & Gardens, and grew into a multi-year run with The Foundry and Home Depot. The proof of the partnership is simple: it started with the living room, and the success of that first spot brought us back for the bedroom, then the college dorm.

The clearest measure of success here is that they kept calling back. What began as a single living-room spot became a series across multiple environments, a relationship that ran over several years on the strength of the work.
